Itinerary

Day 1

ARRIVAL DAY

Welcome to India! Upon your arrival at IGI airport in Delhi, our representative will escort you to the pre-booked hotel. After completing check-in formalities, you can rest and afternoon you will be visiting AKSHARDHAM and DILLI HAAT and walk around the neighboring streets to be familiar with the culture of Delhi before sinking into the cosines of your bed. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel in Delhi. Dinner time Our guide will brief you about the tour, after which you can interact with your fellow participants Meals: B, D Accommodation: Hote

Day 2

ORIENTATION & Rest day

You will be meeting in the hotel to have an orientation program and introduction of the team members and participants

Day 3

Rishikesh to Natin Village

We will pick you up at 6 am from your Hotel for a 7 hours long journey to Natin. Natin is a pleasant village famous as the base camp of the Dayara Bugyal Trek. It is around 38 km from Uttarkashi. The village flourishes with lush greenery. Bhagirathi River flows with you throughout the way up to the village. The route to Raithal is like a pathway between the mountains. Uttarkashi is the largest town on the route and from here you will head to Bhatwari. The closer you get to the base camp; the more brilliant views of the mountains unfold in front of you. You will get the first glimpse of the Gangotri range, Shrikanth peak from the Moryana top. Here you will half for a small break if you wish to capture the splendid peaks. As you approach close to Natin, the views of mountain peaks get bigger, Shrikanth peak is one of the prominent peaks from here. Mobile network is available here. The last prominent market is Uttarkashi and a smaller market at Bhatwari. You will spend the night in our guest house.

Day 4 - 10

Trekking

Dayara Bugyal in Uttarakhand is one of the most beautiful meadows in India and it spreads over 28km, with a magnificent view of many known peaks like Bhagirathi, Bandarpoonch, Black peak and unknown peaks. Clean and pure water bodies reflecting the beautiful trees and skies and flowers covering the vast area describes the astounding Dayara bugyal. Dayara Bugyal is situated in the district Uttarkashi of the state Uttarakhand. Dehradun is around 250km away from Delhi. This distance can be covered by road around 7-8 hours of drive It is not only famous for its lush green meadows and beautiful wild flowers with clear view of the Himalayas but also for butter milk Holi celebrated there. This is also known as Anduri Utsav / and is attended by local folk and many tourists. In this festival butter and milk is smeared over each other. A traditional “Raso” dance is also performed it is so beautiful that even the tourists join in. In winters the place wears a thick blanket of snow and provides trekkers with captivating view. With vast area to cover with a different view at every angle this place is truly magical. The flora and fauna it offer you is something you can find nowhere.

Day 12

Natin – Gui

OVERVIEW Altitude (Gui): 2900 m/ 9500 ft Trek Distance: 3.5 Km / Duration 4-5 hours Altitude Gain: 650 m/ 2100 ft Easy Trail: Gradual easy ascend Hot lunch at camp site No water source, carry 2 liters of water Stay on meadows in tents Get up early to start the trek. It is a walk-through jungle. The trail leads to Gui. Where you will find silver and gold oak trees. The climb is gradual and easy. To reach the next place, it will take approximately 4-5 hours. You will need to carry 2 liters of water, there is no water sources along the route. Alpine trees surrounded the campsite, which is quite different from mountains. Near the camp site, you will find charming village huts, with clear views of Shrikanth peak and the Gangotri range, Gui offers a similar view to Raithal. Relax and recharge your energy under the night sky.

Day 13

Gui – Chilapada

Overview Altitude (Chilpada): 3000 m/ 9800 ft Trek Distance: 3 Km / Duration 2 hours Altitude Gain: 100 m/ 300 ft Easy Trail: Gradual walk, easiest day of the week Hot lunch at camp site Carry 1 liter of water Stay in tents Today is relatively easy day. As the forest clears, the trail climbs slowly until you reach Chilapada. This will be a short trek. There is a stream right next to the campsite. For today, you will need to carry one-liter water. There might be some snow tracks along the trail. Hot lunch will be provided at the campsite, Bandarpoonch offers a stunning view during the Dayara Bugyal trek, but there are many other magnificent peaks. You can explore the area after lunch or evening tea.

Day 14

Chilpada to Dayara Top and Trek to Nayata

OVERVIEW Altitude (Dayara Top): 3700 m/ 12100 ft / (Nayata) 2800 m / 9200 ft Trek Distance: Chilpada – Dayara Top 5km / Duration 5-6 hours. Dayara Top – Maayta 6 Km / Duration 3-4 hours Easy to moderate trail Packed lunch on the way Carry enough water, only one water source near the top Massive views of many peaks and Dodital Range from top Summit day is here. Today you will make it all the way up to the Dayara summit and then return to your campsite. This is a moderately easy trail. There is only one water source at the top. Make sure you have enough water. The trail opens up gradually and leads to meadows as you descend the forest. You will soon be trudging through the meadows. Which are bursting with color. You won’t believe you are getting closer to the top when you walk on this beautiful terrain, with breathtaking views of Bandarpoonch or other peaks. A small stream of water might be visible. Although the final climb is difficult, it’s worth it because you will be able to see stunning views of Dodital. You will then reach the Gidara pass, which marks the way to Gidara Bugyal and Pichkiya. You can take your time and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding before returning to the campsite. Stay the night at Nayata campsite.

Day 15

Nayata to Natin Village

OVERVIEW Altitude (Natin Village): 2250 m/ 9740 ft Trek Distance: 5 Km / Duration 3 hours Altitude Gain: 550 m/ 1800 ft Easy Trail: Easy descend all the way Hot lunch at Natin Stay at Guest House Today marks the end of your journey through the Himalayan mountains of Dayara Bugyal. Get up early and pack for descent back to Natin Village You can recall the memories of your ascent days throughout the trail. The Himalayan peaks seems to be calling you back. Natin is lively and full of children and villager. Enjoy a hot and delicious lunch here. Stay overnight at our Guest house.

Day 16

Natin to Rishikesh

OVERVIEW Drive Distance: 180 Km / Duration 6-7 hrs drive ro Rishikesh Leave Natin by: 6.30 am Breakfast & Lunch: On the way Enjoy a last cup of morning tea at Natin, and drive back to Rishikesh by 6.30 am. The drive will take you between the mountains and valleys, along with Bhagirathi River, which was also your guide throughout the trek. We will stop for breakfast on the way and will reach by Rishikesh 4-5 PM.

Day 17

White water rafting at Rishikesh

Overview Actual distance: 17 Km Grade: 111, 111+ (Moderate Level) Rafting from Marine drive to NIM beach – Rishikesh is called 26 Km, there are nearly ten grade 111 and grade 111+ rapids along this length of water, each of which is named after the type of rapid. The Three Mice is a category 111 rapid named for the fact that the water appeared practically placid until you reach three rapids that follow each other quite closely. Cross Fire (111+) and Club Hose are the other rapids (111) The excursion begins with a 45-minuite to one-hour journey to the starting spot, where a proper safety briefing is given and the rafts and other equipment are prepared. The important thing to remember is that this is a rather straightforward stretch, even if an unexpected hydraulic or large wave may arise at any time, which our guides will handle with ease. The rafting down the river takes about 2-3 hours in total. We complete our rafting excursion just before Luxman Jhula in Rishikesh. Evening Sightseeing at Rishikesh

Day 18

Return

Make sure to take back loads of adventure-filled memories and a pledge to keep coming back to the mountains to help the community. We will drop you back to New Delhi International airport for return flight. We wish you a safe and happy journey back to your destination

The price of our Mt. Friendship peak expedition is euro 1200 from  New Delhi to New Delhi. This covers all lodging, internal transportation, and all meals taken during the trekking period.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONS

The safety of our trekkers is our top priority in an emergency. Our Trek Leaders are skilled in dealing with medical situations, particularly those brought on by altitude. In more serious circumstances, the trekker will be taken on a stretcher as soon as possible to the closest hospital. The participant is responsible for covering any costs associated with using the medical facility. 

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Trek suitable for me?

Only seasoned trekkers are permitted to participate in the Friendship Peak expedition. The expedition's highest elevation achieved is 17,348 feet. The trek trail is challenging to climb but offers unparalleled beauty at the same time. From the peak, one can see the Pir Panjal, Dhauldhar, and vast Himalayan ranges all at once. It is also possible to see some of the highest peaks, including Hanuman Tibba, Shitidhar, Indra Asan, and Deo Tibba. 

Experience required

Basic mountaineering training is advised, although it's not required for extremely competent and experienced trekkers. 20 to 25 days of trekking in the Himalayas, including at least a few difficult hikes would serve best. 

Fitness benchmark

Run/jog 5 km in 25–30 minutes, or walk 10 km continuously (with 3–4 short breaks) on flat ground (a slight incline is better). Additionally do 10 pushups, 15 lunges & squats, 3 sets of climbing 30 - 40 stairs in one stretch, and hold your breath for 40 seconds.

If you are not hitting these standards, please increase your level of fitness until you do.

What sort of tents and sleeping bags will be provided?

The sleeping bags we use are suited for temperatures between -15 and -20 degrees Celsius, and we use four-season tents.

Which documents are essential for the expedition?

The obligatory documents needed for this journey are an ID proof (soft copy to be provided to us in advance & original to be carried), a medical certificate (soft copy to be sent to us & original to be carried), a passport, and a visa copy.

We have worked with the villagers in this district for 6 years and have very good understanding term aims for the community.

 

  • Volunteers are contributing to long term sustainable projects which are genuinely benefiting community needs and are supported directly by Moving Mountains in Indian Himalayas. 

 

  • We have selection process in place to ensure the suitability of the potential volunteer and we provide lots of support and advice before, during and after all volunteering placement

 

  • All the cost of volunteering is covered by the participant and placements are designed to benefit local communities financially rather than being an economic burden and participants work with local staff in local communities, rather than for a replacement for them

 

  • We prefer skilled based volunteering, where individuals are matched to their skillset or particular interest, and where possible expertise to help solve a problem. 

 

  • We do not allow untrained inexperienced participants to work with children unsupervised and without proper guidance beforehand on the issues surrounding child care education in the area they are visiting.

Studies have shown that ever-growing use of technology and digital media are related to an increase in physical, psychological and behavior disorders among young age. Now more than ever teenagers and young adults are reporting overwhelming anxiety and worry in their day-to-day life and they haven’t found effective ways to cope with the stress. It’s no secret that social media and smart phone use are linked to depression in adolescents and young adult. The question is How can we help them manage and decrease anxiety?

 

It’s simple! At BTA younger generation get a digital detox and are able to completely unplug from technology for 2 two weeks. Giving them a much-needed break and relieving the non-stop pressure they feel at schools and universities. Some participants initially resist the idea of giving up their phones, but while they are at our program, they realize that they can fully thrive without them

8, Comfort zones and personal growth

 

Many of us stay wrapped snugly in our comfort zone. We fear challenging ourselves because we don’t want to fail Today’s children are less-equipped to deal with challenging situation. Which leads to a fixed mindset of trying, falling and giving up. BTA program promote and provide endless opportunities for teenagers to develop and cultivate a growth mindset, allowing them to try new things, fail, rebound from failure and then ultimately succeed because they are working hard. What does this lead to? Think about when participants go outside their comfort zone (i.e. experiencing an optimal level of stress) they perform better their skills increase and they feel more comfortable about leaving their comfort zone again. Plus, new experiences and new skills open the door to continue trying new things. Which leads to the younger generation becoming more well-rounded and open to embracing challenge often. It’s us as parents who hold our children back from venturing out and learning to take risk on their own.

There are endless opportunities inherent in the Bike and Trek Adventure to practice and improve these skills, from making new friends on day one, to trying an outdoor activity for the first time, to helping orchestrate and execute an entirely student-led expedition at the end of the program.

 

Leadership: We solve problems in groups. These groups need leaders with heart that bring out the best in its members, Bike and Trek Adventure provides numerous opportunities to lead and follow.

Self-Management : Joining a Voluntourism program develops personal organization timeliness, responsibility and self-care skills.

Critical Thinking: The world’s problems don’t has simple answers. These challenges require the ability to critically analyze a situation and formulate potential solutions that are not often obvious.
 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be at least 15 years old at the time of joining the project. You need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference. Participants must be fit and healthy at the time of joining the programme. Participants should have no criminal convictions and should provide a clean criminal background check report. A parental consent form shall be required for under 18 years old participating in the program.

 

WHERE ARE OUR PROJECTS LOCATED? : Lying in the northern part of India amidst the magnificent Himalayas and dense forests, Uttarakhand (until recently known as Uttaranchal) was formed on 9th Nov 2000 as India’s 27th state. The state borders Himachal Pradesh in the north-west and Uttar Pradesh in the South, and has international borders with western Nepal and China.

 

The city of Dehradun, has been declared as the interim capital of the new state. Dehradun is situated at the Himalayan foothills in the fertile Doon Valley, which is well known for its pleasant climate and natural beauty.

 

The population of the state is around 7 million. The State, which covers 55,845 sq. km, is mostly hilly (approx. 88 percent) and the remaining 12 percent falls in the plains. It is rich in natural resources with many glaciers, rivers, forests, and well-known mountain peaks including Nanda Devi, Kedarnath, Trishul, Bandarpunch and Mt Kamet.

 

We are currently supporting a very remote village in Uttarkashi District Natin. This village having a very proud history. Agriculture is the main profession of this village. Still the village is waiting for education, drinking water facility, Road and electricity are the main concern of this village. This assignment is best suited to students, couples or a very self-sufficient individual.

 

Help raise awareness among Indian Himalayan villagers on important issues such as environmental care, climate, recycling and sustainability.

 

Join us for 18 days of special volunteering and trekking in the Himalayas program and volunteer as a climate Ambassador.

 

As a volunteer you will give workshops at villages, youth clubs talk with villagers and set up awareness and cleanup events in the area, help constructing or renovating houses for villagers and teaching English in village schools. WHAT IS THE ENVIRONMENT IN UTTARAKHAND HIMALAYAS LIKE?

 

Urbanization, development and tourism increases the production of waste in Uttarakhand Himalayan region. Unfortunately, Uttarakhand does not yet have all the systems in place to cope with this increase. Waste is either burnt, leading to bad air quality or dumped haphazardly. This is having a serious effect on the health of local people on its land and water resources. There has been little education among the village people about the influences of climate change, waste, littering and effects of burning of plastics. Therefore, in many neighborhoods. You see people littering and throwing garbage on the streets. However nowadays, you see among the youth that there is a will to change things, but they don’t know where to start.

 

WHAT DOES A CLIMATE AMBASSADOR DO?

 

“Bike and Trek Adventure” is looking for people who want to share their knowledge about climate change with our projects in Uttarakhand. BTA started a project to educate and work together with youth clubs and schools in one area of Uttarakhand Himalayan region. The Goal is to create awareness among youth and villagers to teach them about the influence of climate change, littering, plastic etc.… And of course, to make them ACT upon this!

 

As a Volunteer you will:

 

1. Work with local villagers to build up or renovate their houses

2. Work with the local community and schools to plan, coordinate and manage the litter-free neighborhood

3. Assist the schools and community with waste collection drives and trash tag challenges

4. Assist in developing and carrying out various waste management training and programs for community

5. Build network and strengthen relations with community members

6. Work with local schools, develop and give workshops on climate change

7. Make Pictures, posters and promote small events on Facebook and Instagram

8. Be a part of the Green Trial project of BTA, Trekking and camping for a week in Himalayan mountains and collecting garbage and delivering to recycle units.

DO I NEED ANY SPECIFIC SKILLS OR QUALIFICATION FOR THIS PLACEMENT?

 

You just need to bring your skills and knowledge of the environment that you have learned since you were a kid. You need to be a proactive person with lots of good ideas to get a community and or group of youth interested in a common goal. Of course, the BTA volunteer team will help you with this.

And last but not the least, you will need to be culturally sensitive with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the confidence to create positive relationships in very diverse working environments.

 

ORIENTATION

 

Once you arrive, we organize an introduction for you. We deem this to be highly valuable and it’s a program valued by many volunteers in the past. By means of an introduction, you can acclimatize and prepare for your volunteering. You can begin your project rested and prepared. In this way you can be really effective.

 

Arriving to work in a foreign country can be a nerve-wracking experience, this is why we provide a friendly and in depth welcome. The in-depth welcome encompasses basic language training. Cultural training and sight-seeing through Rishikesh and surrounding. This is what we can expect from the moment when you touch down at Dehradun airport. The programme may vary depending on your time of arrival. We will manage to include all below mentioned activities in your introduction program.

 

ACCOMODATION

 

While you volunteer with BTA you will be staying with BTA guest house, Home stay, Camping and local host family. By living with a local family, they gain a greater insight and understanding of Garhwali culture. You will be a part of a local family, eat together with the family and play with the children. 

 

The standard of lodging will depend on whether you are in a rural or urban area. In a rural area the facilities will be basic with minimal running water and squat toilets. In an urban placement you will have a flushing western style toilet and a shower. All of your food will be provided for your home stay and you will be close to your accommodation.

 

All our host families have conducted training regarding hosting volunteers adequately. They know how to ensure hygiene and provide security. They will treat you as a member of the family.

 

When you arrive on placement you will be introduced to your host family by the BTA representative and given a full tour of premises. Many of our host families have children and many of our volunteers help them with their English, learn to cook Indian food and mix in with their life. The other way around, we experience volunteers learning a lot from the host and children regarding life in the Himalayas.

 

COMFORT

 

You should not expect luxury on your stay in Himalayan village. These mountain foothills are a developing region and may well be different from what you are used to at home. However, your accommodation will be comfortable. 

 

ELECTRICITY

 

The electricity supply in all areas is good. But sometimes there is a power cut which can last a few hours. Some places have backup batteries that will run low power bulbs in key rooms, but in the rural areas you can expect to use candles. A hand-torch is a useful thing to bring.

 

FOOD

 

On placement you will eat with the family and share the same food as them. All three meals a day are provided for you while volunteering. The usual meal times are 8am – 10 am, 1 pm 2 pm and 6 and 8 pm. You will usually be served the national local cuisine which is a tasty and filling plate of rice vegetable curry, lentils, egg and pickles. It may occasionally have meat such as chicken or lamb in it, although if you are vegetarian this can easily be explained. This may be supplemented occasionally by noodles, eggs and other snacks depending on your host family.

Natin village is situated in Teshil Bhatwari, District Uttarkashi and in state of UTTARAKHAND, India. Total geographical area of Natin Village is 85.73 Hectares. Natin is a paradise with big peaks and infinite mountain ranges decoder everywhere - for a peaceful life experience while staying in this beautiful village.

Overview

Voluntourism is an upcoming concept all over the world, where the idea is to travel to certain places- like Himalayas, Farms, Fishing villages, rural areas and so on and take up volunteering for a cause. 

As temperatures soar in most parts of the country, we take a look at a volunteering options in picturesque hilly regions of Northern part of Himalayas.

Eligibility

  • Age: Anyone above 15 years of age. 

  • The participant has to be in the good physical condition and possess the energy to accomplish 5 km in 30 min without feeling rushed.

  • The ascent should be possible with a 12- to 16-kg back load

  • Pulse rate at rest must be in between (60-90 per second)

  • Blood pressure reading must be between (Diastolic 75-85, Systolic 100-130 Hg)

  • Respiratory rate at rest must be in between (12 – 20 breaths per minuite)

  • Should not have liver and kidney issues

  • Should not have diabetics Mellitus, Asthma, Epilepsy, Heart problems, High BP

  • No pacemaker implant

  • Experience: Any high-altitude trek, at least one that is 5000 metres (16400 feet) in elevation.

  • Trekkers below 15 years should have a company of a parent / guardian

  • Trekkers between 15-18 years can come solo with the disclaimer form signed by parent/ Guardian
