Day 2

CHAING MAI – NAM PHRAE

Experience the Thai countryside by bicycle. After pick up from your hotel, there is a transfer by car to a small traditional Thai village about 20 minutes from Chiang Mai. Here you will start your tour and cycle through the valley of Chiang Mai city. You will visit traditional villages with wooden houses on stilts, stop at a village school, ride through the rice fields along lazy back roads and the forest areas connecting the small villages. Encounters such as water buffaloes crossing the street or children being surprised by the unusual sight of foreigners cycling through their village can be expected. There is sufficient time to stop, have a rest or refreshment and chat with the villagers to get a feeling of the local life. Lunch will take place in bamboo floating huts at the banks of a beautiful lake. You continue your exploration of the lifestyle of local farmers and get a better understanding of the process of seasonal rice farming. You will stop along the way to meet local people and visit markets and temples and you can pay respect to a huge standing Buddha at the top of a hill.

Day 3

NAM PHRAE - LAMPHUN

An easy cycling day with small paved country roads, hardly any traffic, and no hills. The tour will take you along quiet country roads through rice fields, local villages and beautiful scenery on your way to Baan Tawai. Baan Tawai is a village known for its wood sculpting and handicrafts. There is a market to explore and a chance to talk to the craftsmen. From Baan Tawai you go onwards to Lamphun via country roads and along the river Ping and its smaller tributaries. Orchards, rice fields and other agricultural areas aplenty. When you arrive in Lamphun make sure to visit Wat Haripunchai temple, an ancient Buddhist temple complex with beautiful statues, art and relics. And a large golden tower which is lit up at night. Both Baan Tawai and Wat Haripunchai are good locations for lunch. You will overnight in Lamphun

Day 4

LAMPHUN – SAN KAMPHENG

An easy cycling day with similar roads and traffic as the days before.
You continue your tour through these very fertile lands due to the proximity of the Ping river. Tranquil cycling through fields and small villages where you can stop to chat with local people or visit temples and markets.

Day 5

SAN KAMPHENG – DOI SAKET

This day we have some hills for you, but mostly small paved country roads again. You will pass Muang On caves and San Kamphaeng hot springs, both a good option for lunch. The Muang-On Caves are filled with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, and fluorescent lights artfully placed around to enhance the look and feel of natural rock formations. Well worth a visit. The San Kamphaeng hot springs contain water with a high sulfur content and it is said to cure many diseases and improve blood circulation. A nice stop and soak while cycling.

Day 6

DOI SAKET – MAE TAENG

Today a long ride with lots to see but it is up to you if you want to take time checking the sites. You will ride passed the Doi Saket temple on the hill and continue to the Mae Kuang Dam which provides water for the Doi Saket area. Here you cross the bridge that is not allowed for cars. You will find some lunch options at the dam. The road after the bridge will be a few kilometers of dirt roads with some steep parts. Once back on the concrete road there is a long stretch through the forest without any people living there. You can take a left towards the Buatong Waterfalls with a few small food stalls for a visit, or continue the route towards Mae Ngat Dam.

Day 7

MAE TAENG – CHIANG DAO

Today many hills to climb and some are very steep. Also, some dirt roads and not too well maintained concrete roads, expect some potholes. The route takes you through a forest area and almost to the top of a mountain with incredible mountain scenery, beautiful greenery, and wildlife. You will pass through hill tribe villages. Most hill tribes live almost self-sufficient, contact with the city is quite limited. They find a way of providing for their own needs on these steep mountain slopes. If you do not want to climb too many hills you could stay on the main road, road 107, as our route will loop back to the 107 before arriving at the hotel

Day 8

CHIANG DAO – CHIANG MAI

On the last day, we will be travelling from Chiang Dao to Chiang Mai to the starting point where the adventure began. The first part of today is for the Chiang Dao cave. Chiang Dao Cave features beautiful crystal formations and is an interesting place to visit. Boasting some of the most spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations in the country, Chiang Dao Cave stretches many kilometres into the mountains. Next a stretch of dirt roads, and then back to better roads again towards Mae Rim and then proceed to Chiang Mai. Time to bid adieu to our newly made friends with promises and hopes that we will cross paths in the future. we drive out to the airport and take the flight out to your destination

Training guides and fitness

For our trips, we are often asked “what kind of fitness levels are required”? Of course, if you have booked a trip that is at the upper end of your capabilities, you want to know that you have done all you can to prepare. Unfortunately, these questions are often the most difficult to answer. Only you know your current fitness levels and capabilities and can prepare according to the options available to you.

When altitude is involved, your ability to acclimatize is going to have a much greater impact on your progress than your fitness. However, poor fitness and preparation is not going to increase your chances. In an effort to help you reach your active adventure goals, we’ve produced helpful Fitness Guides to help prepare for your trip

It is always best to make your preparation as close to the real thing as possible. Of course, it’s tough to replicate the major mountain ranges around the world, but make sure you include ups and downs if you are preparing for a mountain ride. If you are still unsure about your fitness, or the difficulty of the ride, we suggest you refer again to our grading system or talk it through with one of our experts and please download our Cycling Fitness Guide.
